A multidisciplinary performance exploring the profound bond between a father and his neurodivergent son.
Written and directed by Maneesh Verma, this multidisciplinary performance explores the profound bond between a father and his neurodivergent son, using dance as a powerful language of connection, growth, and resilience. As the boy grows, he must navigate a world that often feels overwhelming, grappling with the absence of his mother, the pressures of society, and the challenge of finding his own footing. His father, mindful of time’s fragility, gently prepares him for this journey. Through their shared practice, he imparts lessons in resilience, trust, and individuality, showing his son that movement can express what words cannot.
The production features Sumeet Nagdev and Arjun Kachroo, with live music by Siddharth Shenoy and team. Seamlessly blending storytelling, choreography, and immersive visual design by Gaurav Singh Nijjer, the work reflects on love, memory, and the lasting imprint a parent leaves behind, reminding us that while a dancer may depart, the dance endures.

As the video designer for Dancing with Dad, I approached projection as an extension of Noor’s inner life, his way of seeing, processing, and feeling the world. Noor’s perspective is not linear or conventionally filtered; it is associative, sensory, and deeply attentive to detail. To reflect this, the visual language draws from hand-drawn animation, using lines that feel immediate, slightly imperfect, and alive. These animations carry a sense of rawness, almost like thoughts forming in real time, allowing access to Noor’s interiority without needing to explain it.
Alongside this, I’ve used p5.js to create generative animations that work with rhythm, repetition, and variation. These systems introduce subtle movement and shifting patterns that sit between control and unpredictability, reflecting moments of focus, overwhelm, and emotional transition. This generative layer is combined with treated live-action footage of dance. The footage is fragmented, looped, faded, and layered with the drawn and generative elements, so that the dancer’s body moves between presence and memory, sometimes clear, sometimes dissolving.
The result is a layered visual field where hand-drawn textures, generative motion, and altered live footage coexist. Rather than presenting a single stable image, the projections hold multiple states at once, memory, imagination, observation, and emotion. The intention is not to define Noor’s mind, but to offer a glimpse of its textures and rhythms, allowing the audience to experience how his world unfolds from within.
