Video As Storyteller

2024-Present

Facilitator, Designer

An introductory workshop series on multimedia and projections for live performance.

VIDEO AS STORYTELLER is a workshop series focused on the use of multimedia, video and projections in live performances, such as theatre, music and dance.

The workshop has been developed by Gaurav Singh Nijjer, an Indian theatre-maker, creative technologist and multidisciplinary designer based on his artistic works as an individual artist and and those with his theatre company Kaivalya Plays.

The workshop focuses on introducing the basics of video design, media conceptualization, video cueing and mapping to participants, who often don't have prior experience in this area.

With this workshop series, Gaurav hopes to contribute deeply to expanding multimedia-based forms of performance, that creatively integrates technology and multimedia into storytelling.

I teach Video as Storyteller because I believe video, projections, and multimedia aren’t just technical tools—they’re powerful narrative elements. My work in theatre, digitality, and hybrid storytelling has shown me how moving images can transform the stage, shift perspective, and open up new emotional and conceptual spaces in performance.

This workshop series comes from years of experimenting—both as a solo artist and with Kaivalya Plays—with how video can live, breathe, and respond in real time with actors, sound, movement, and space. I designed it specifically for performers and makers who may not have a technical background, but are eager to use media as an expressive, intuitive layer in their storytelling.

My hope is that Video as Storyteller helps more artists imagine multimedia not as an add-on, but as an integral part of their creative voice.
