Art of War

As the video designer for Art of War, my focus was to create visuals that support the dancer and help the audience move through each phase of the work. Every projection in this performance was made specifically for it, using a mix of AI-generated video, filmed material, and simple motion graphics. Nothing existed before; we built the visual world from scratch during rehearsals.

A big part of the design was developing the idea of “digital double,” a second version of the performer who appears, transforms, multiplies, and sometimes falls apart. This helped us show different emotional and narrative layers without taking attention away from the live body on stage. We also explored spirals of text, scenes of destruction, mythological references, temple spaces, and images of waiting, fire, and renewal. The aim throughout was to keep the visuals responsive and grounded, and to make sure they remained in conversation with the choreography rather than overshadowing it.

For me, Art of War is about how movement, imagery, and storytelling can come together to hold experiences that are both personal and universal. My role was simply to help these worlds appear and disappear at the right moments, and to let the technology deepen the story without becoming the story.
